This fantastic event will take place on June 3-4, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Soccer City in Oklahoma City, OK. Matthews will be demonstrating box lacrosse skills and techniques, as well as signing autographs as part of a series of clinics offered by the TBLA to promote the growth of the game of box lacrosse in the Southwest.

On behalf of the ref team for Edmond Lacrosse, let me welcome you to another year of lax. In this area of the newsletter, I will try to define some rules that you as parents and families of players might have. This year, I will try and throw in a few thoughts related to the girl's games too. As always, feel free to find me on the field, and ask any questions about rules that you may have. My goal is to referee each age group, and go over at halftime, and give you all the chance to ask questions. We are all still learning the sport, and our hope is to build the lines of communication to help the sport grow in Edmond.

Kudos to my ref team. On February 23rd, we sent out five referees to help call games in other areas. Bill Barker traveled to NWA, and called a JV game by himself. I heard from several that he did just as good as some of the two man ref teams. Berry Dobbs, traveled to Tulsa, to call HS ball all day long. Again, I heard good comments about Berry. Thank you to both of these adults for representing Edmond in such a positive way. A huge thank you to three of our High School aged refs that traveled to Tulsa to call youth games. Caleb Dobbs and Connor Bannon, called 3/4 and 5/6 level games all day. Reece Anderson, called 7/8 games, and was the lead official. We require our HS aged refs, to take the Level 1 Clinic, and to be equipped like an adult referee. These three did an outstanding job. Such a good job, that I have been contacted about the three of them coming over two more Saturdays to call games. Thanks to all five of these refs, for representing ELC is such a positive way.

Welcome to the 2013 spring season! This is Edmond Lacrosse's 8th season. On behalf of the coaches and the Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" for joining us for our very best season so far! With almost 400 kids playing this spring, we continue to grow and build a program that is the envy of the region. This year, we have already hosted a referee clinic, player clinics for both boys and girls, and a US Lacrosse coach clinic. All of these pieces add up to ensure your players are receiving the absolute best lacrosse experience possible.

Our youth games will begin on March 30th and will continue into May. During that time we will schedule over 120 games, including more than 40 games during our 2nd Annual "Laxapalooza" on April 13th & 14th. On that weekend, we will host teams from Tulsa, NWA, Holland Hall, and Wichita.

Please know that our primary focus continues to be the safety of your players not only on the field, but also in the Cheyenne parking lot. This season, we will continue blocking off the road between the school and the fields to protect our players. Please be on the lookout out for kids darting into and around the parking lot! In addition, remember that parking in the grass is not permitted.

Lastly, our program is run entirely by volunteers. We need your help, whether it's working in the concession stand on game days or helping set up the fields. Please jump in and help us continue to build your Edmond Lacrosse program.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

ELC would like to congratulate Hannah Dowell and Chloe Webber on signing with Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2013-2014 season. These are outstanding achievements made possible by Hannah and Chloe’s hard work and dedication on and off the field, as well as the hard work of ELC’s coaches and Coach Katy Mohr’s eye for solid talent. In a recent press release, Coach Mohr commented that both players would be “great additions to the OBU program due to their strong work ethic and love of the game”.

Chloe Webber is an attacker for ELC’s Girls High School Team and is an honor roll student at Memorial. Hannah Dowell, a student at Edmond North, is a midfielder for the ELC squad and also serves as one of the team’s captains. Hannah was voted as the team’s most improved player for the spring 2012 season.

Congratulations Hannah and Chloe!

FROM THE GIRLS COORDINATOR’S CORNER

The spring 2013 season is well underway for the Girls High School Team and is shaping up to be the most competitive and successful season in the history of the ELC Girls High School Program. The team started the season going 2-2 in Little Rock and has been working hard to improve skills and build the team in preparation for games in Wichita on April 6th and for games against NWA and Wichita in Edmond at Laxapolooza on April 13-14th. The team recently celebrated the recruitment of Hannah Dowell and Chloe Webber to Oklahoma Baptist University, and coaches continue to field questions from college coaches about players on the ELC roster. Keep up the hard work girls.

Games for the youth girls’ begin on March 30th. Players and coaches have been working to teach new skills and improve existing skills. As with anything, practice makes perfect, and our players have been working hard! ELC will host the NWA youth girls squad at Laxapolooza in a few weeks and hopes to field teams at NWA’s LaxFest in April and at the Wounded Warrior Playday in Texas in May.

On another note, I have had some players and parents ask about the fastest way to become a better lacrosse player…my answer is, and will likely always be…HIT THE BALL WALL! Every minute you spend at the ball wall develops your skills and makes you a better lacrosse player. If you need suggestions about what to do while you’re at the ball wall, ask one of your coaches. You don’t need to spend an hour every day, but the more time you spend and the more times you go, the more results you’ll see!

A great start to the season, ladies. Keep up the good work!

Alex Edwards

Learn the basics or pick up new skills from Coach Bryan Stanley, from LaGrange College in Georgia, and Coach Katy Mohr from Oklahoma Baptist University this Sunday during two FREE clincs:

Youth Girls Clinic – 12:30 – 2:00
High School Girls Clinic – 2:00 – 4:00

The clinics will be held at the fields at Mitch Park.

We are lucky that Coach Stanley is visiting Oklahoma this week and were thrilled he reached out to ELC. A bit of information about the LaGrange Lacrosse Program is below…

Entering its fourth season, the LaGrange College women’s lacrosse team is looking for its best season yet in 2013…Bryan Stanley joins the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Stanley brings his experience as the former head coach of the Starrs Mill High School varsity girls program.
